Janine Gould – Weight Loss with bonuses
My successful weight loss journey
Hi, my name is Janine and this is my weight loss journey with Barnard Mind Solution (BMS).
I am 51 years old with an 18 year old daughter. I had been very active as a teenager and young woman, I played tennis 3-4 times a week, cycled, walked a lot and took aerobics classes. Even though I was fit, I began to have problems with my blood pressure from around the age of 18 years, and I have battled with my weight most of my life. I had always managed to keep my weight at a reasonable level, however I started to put on more weight after the breakup of my marriage.
I continued to put on weight over the next 18 years and by the time I contacted BMS, I weighed 114.4kgs and wore size 22-24 clothes. My cholesterol was a high, I was taking four tablets a day to control my blood pressure and heart rate, and my doctor was considering prescribing a cholesterol tablet as well.
I had suffered Plantar Fasciitis in both feet at different times over the past few years. I experienced back pain every time I did physical work, constantly had muscle stiffness in my back and legs, and exertion of any kind made me out of breath.
I enjoy photography and my daughter and I would often go to beautiful places to photograph waterfalls and mountain scenery. I loved doing this, but I was never able to enjoy the “whole experience” because I found the terrain difficult and totally exhausting. I would run out of breath quickly and would have to stop every few metres to catch my breath.
I didn’t sleep well, I was tired all the time, I had very little energy and everything was difficult. I was very house proud when I was younger, but the heavier I got, the more discomfort I experienced and the harder it was to do normal housework chores. My biggest problem area was my stomach and I was ashamed of how I looked. I would go to the swimming pool with my daughter and would always wear a big t-shirt over my bathers to try to hide how I looked.
My parents died young, neither making it to 50 years. Although I had already outlived them, I was scared that if I continued to put on weight, I would end up joining them sooner rather than later, and this had started to cause me a lot of anxiety.
Over the years I had tried a number of weight loss programs. I did lose some weight on these programs, however I found them either expensive or difficult to stick to, and once I stopped following the programs, I put on all the weight I had lost, plus some. It seemed no matter what I tried, I always fell in a heap around the six week mark, it always seemed too hard. By the time I had reached my top weight, I felt as if I had too much weight to lose and it was a hopeless cause.
It was when my doctor suggested putting me on a cholesterol tablet, that I realised I really needed to do something. The heavier I had got, the more medication I had to take to control my blood pressure, and now my doctor was suggesting I take another tablet. I didn’t want to do that.
I recognised that I needed to change my lifestyle, but I didn’t know how to go about it. I didn’t want to take pills or drink diet shakes, and I didn’t want to eat food that someone else had prepared. I wanted to learn how to do it all myself, so I could make changes that I could continue for the rest of my life.
I knew I needed good advice and support to help me succeed, so I did some research online and found BMS. What initially attracted me to BMS was the hypnotherapy component. I’d had previous experience with hypnotherapy and enjoyed the benefits I gained from it, so I was eager to learn how hypnotherapy could help me lose weight.
During the appointments with Kerry, I was 110% honest about what I ate, when I ate, how often I ate, how much I ate. I felt ashamed to admit some of the things I told Kerry, but I knew in my heart that to get the most out of the program, I needed to be completely honest with Kerry and myself. Kerry immediately identified why I was eating the way I was eating, and the solution was so simple that it hardly seemed possible. I was a sugar junkie.
At each visit Kerry gave me easy to follow handouts which included simple guidelines to follow. These included what I should and shouldn’t eat and drink, the things I should limit, portion sizes and the type of exercise that would be most beneficial for me.
What NOT to eat was simple – no refined sugar, (which is pretty much all packaged food at the supermarket!) and no potato, white grains or pasta. She helped me understand why refined sugar is so bad – it has no nutritional value and your body turns it to fat. She also helped me understand the truth about “low fat” and “no fat” foods – which have higher levels of refined sugar to make them taste better. Our bodies need a certain amount of fat, and the additional refined sugar (which turns to fat in our body) outweighs any benefits from the item’s low or no fat content.
What TO eat was just as simple. I didn’t have to buy expensive pre-packaged meals, count calories, take pills or drink shakes. I just had to buy normal healthy food and cook it myself. It could not have been easier. This was a way of eating that I knew I could continue to do for the rest of my life.
Kerry did a half hour of hypnotherapy at each session, and provided me with a USB containing two hypnotherapy sessions to play at night in bed. I believe the hypnotherapy sessions have helped me to be positive and motivated.
Before I saw Kerry, I was always eating foods with high sugar content and continually going from sugar-high to sugar-low and back again. I was hungry all the time and looking for snacks all the time, but I did not enjoy anything I ate. I was basically eating for the sake of eating. After seeing Kerry for the first time, I felt like a switch had been flicked inside my brain because I no longer wanted or needed sugary foods.
What I have discovered is that the healthy food I now eat maintains my blood sugar at a perfect level. I am never hungry, I don’t crave sweet foods, I don’t look for snacks in between meals, and I love everything I eat.
I experienced a detox headache for the first week until all the toxins left my body, but after that passed, I started feeling really good. I lost 2.6kg in the first week and I have averaged a little over a kilo every week since then. After eight weeks, I have lost a total of 10.8kg.
My head is so much clearer and I feel great. I don’t feel sluggish anymore, I feel lighter on my feet and I have a lot more energy. I am sleeping better, everything feels easier, and I am already seeing improvements in my blood pressure and heart rate. I have dropped a bra size and a clothes size, and my friends and workmates comment all the time about the difference they see in me, a difference that I can see every day in the mirror.
Eating healthy is second nature to me now and I know without a doubt that I can continue eating this way for the rest of my life. I am extremely proud of what I have achieved so far and I am excited for the future.
Undertaking this program with Kerry has had an unexpected benefit. My daughter was so impressed with all the things I told her after my first session with Kerry that she decided to follow my example. I am very proud to say that my daughter has lost 6.9kg in eight weeks and is feeling amazing (her words).
Thank you Kerry for your help and advice, you have changed both our lives.
